Letter to Melvin

Over the years, I’ve made an interesting observation about the practice of government in the U.S. Our elected officials call themselves public servants but their actions and demeanor tell me they see themselves less as servants and more as masters to whom we must pay our respects. Their behavior stands in stark contrast to that of the man we honor today. (more…)

Stop. Spending. Money.

You know Maryland is turned upside down when a Republican and a Democrat agree on the solution to our state’s economic ills. Doug Duncan, former Montgomery County executive and candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2006, wrote  a column in the Washington Post criticizing the small thinking of Maryland’s elected officials in the current budget crisis. The solution he proposes is precisely what I’ve been advocating since my first campaign in 2006:

Chameleon of the Chesapeake

Given my current economic circumstances, I wasn’t looking for laughter in the editorial pages of my local paper this past week, but I read something hilarious nonetheless. My state senator, “President for Life” Mike Miller, wrote a sober letter to the editor imploring us to be resilient and work together to solve the state’s fiscal problems. He said, “Now is not a time for demagoguery, geographic divisions, or partisan brinksmanship.” Excuse me, but what has been taking place in the General Assembly under your leadership for the past several decades?
